Travelling with Wegovy or Mounjaro
Wegovy FlexTouch and Mounjaro KwikPen do not have identical out-of-fridge limits. Travel with the exact leaflet, keep the pen away from heat and freezing, and carry proof that the medicine was prescribed for you.

Brand-specific storage limits
This table refers to the multi-dose Wegovy FlexTouch and Mounjaro KwikPen presentations commonly supplied in Spain. Other presentations—especially single-dose pens—can have different limits, so the leaflet on your exact box always controls.
Refrigerate at 2°C–8°C. Do not freeze. Keep away from the cooling element.
Refrigerate at 2°C–8°C. Do not freeze.
6 weeks below 30°C or refrigerated at 2°C–8°C. Keep the cap on to protect from light.
Up to 30 days unrefrigerated below 30°C, then discard the pen.
Do not use.
Do not use.
Follow the leaflet and ask a pharmacist if the pen or solution appears abnormal.
Do not use if damaged, cloudy, discoloured or containing particles.
Why “opened versus unopened” matters: an unopened multi-dose pen should normally stay refrigerated until first use. The timed room-temperature allowance shown above applies after first use. A single-dose version can carry a different cumulative out-of-fridge rule; identify the presentation before relying on any number.
What to carry
Prescription evidence
Keep the REMPe prescription email or a clear printed copy, plus a medication list showing your name, medicine, dose and prescriber.
Original packaging
Keep the labelled box and current package leaflet with the pen. Do not travel with an unlabelled device.
Insulated case
Use a purpose-made medicine travel case where needed. Prevent the pen touching frozen gel packs; freezing damages the medicine.
Hand-luggage plan
Carry the medicine with you. Check airline security and destination import rules before departure, especially when leaving the EU.
Protect the pen
- Use hand luggage, not checked baggage.
- Keep it out of direct sun and in the original packaging.
- Record when the pen first left refrigeration or was first used.
- Confirm a hotel refrigerator stays safely within range.
- Carry enough medicine plus a sensible delay allowance.
Avoid these mistakes
- Do not leave pens in a parked car or beach bag.
- Do not place the pen directly against ice or a frozen pack.
- Do not use a pen that has frozen.
- Do not assume two brands have the same storage window.
- Do not use medicine of uncertain temperature history without advice.
If the pen became too hot, froze or was left out too long
Quarantine it and do not guess. Contact a pharmacist or the manufacturer with the exact product, presentation, batch, approximate temperature and duration. Replace the pen if instructed.

Travelling with injection pens: questions
How long can Wegovy stay outside the fridge?
For the multi-dose FlexTouch pen, current EMA information says six weeks below 30°C or refrigerated after first use. Other presentations may differ.
How long can Mounjaro stay outside the fridge?
For Mounjaro KwikPen, current EMA information says up to 30 days below 30°C after first use, then discard it.
Can an unopened pen stay at room temperature?
For multi-dose FlexTouch and KwikPen presentations, the standard unopened instruction is refrigeration at 2°C–8°C. Follow the exact leaflet rather than assuming the after-first-use limit applies.
Can I take pens through airport security?
Prescribed medicines are normally carried in hand luggage, but check the airline, airport and destination rules. Carry prescription evidence and original packaging.
Can I put the pen directly on ice?
No. Prevent direct contact with ice or frozen packs because the medicine must not freeze.
Can I use a hotel minibar?
Only if it reliably stays within the required range and cannot freeze the pen. Minibars can fluctuate; ask the hotel and consider a thermometer.
What if my flight is delayed?
Plan the full journey plus delays. Keep track of total time and temperature, and have the official leaflet available.
Do I need a doctor’s travel letter?
A prescription copy and labelled packaging are important. Some airlines or destinations may require an additional medical letter, so check before travel.
